🌸 Celebrating Mrs. Herlihy's Retirement 2026 🌸

Today, we celebrated a truly special milestone as we marked the retirement of Mrs. Herlihy after an incredible 26 years of dedicated service to our school community. 🍎📚

For more than two decades, Mrs. Herlihy has touched the lives of countless children with her kindness, patience, wisdom and unwavering commitment to education. She has inspired generations of pupils, supported families and colleagues, and helped create a warm, caring and welcoming school where every child could thrive.

Her passion for teaching, gentle encouragement and genuine care for every student have left a lasting impact that will be remembered for many years to come. While we will greatly miss her presence, we are so grateful for everything she has given to our school over the past 26 years.

On behalf of our entire school community, we thank Mrs. Herlihy for her outstanding dedication, friendship and the countless memories she has helped create. 💐

We wish her a long, happy and well-deserved retirement filled with good health, new adventures, precious time with family and friends, and all the happiness she deserves. ❤️

Today, we celebrated a very special milestone as we said goodbye to our wonderful 6th Class students. 🌟 Congratulations to our 12 graduates, who are now ready to begin an exciting new chapter as they move on to secondary school. 📚

Over the years, they have grown in confidence, kindness and resilience, creating countless memories and friendships along the way. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them and all they have achieved. 🌈👏

💼🌟 Young Entrepreneurs in Action 2026! 🌟💼

Our 4th, 5th and 6th Class students recently completed the Junior Entrepreneurship Programme, where they developed their very own business idea – creating and selling lip balm! 💄👏

The programme was a fantastic learning experience, helping the students build their creativity, teamwork, problem-solving and business skills. Thanks to the success of their venture, they made a profit and decided to reinvest it in our school by purchasing two new goal posts for our astro pitch ⚽🥅,  rugby balls 🏉 and a selection of board games for everyone to enjoy.

We are incredibly proud of their hard work, enthusiasm and thoughtful decision to give back to our school community. Well done to all our young entrepreneurs on a job exceptionally well done! 👏🎉

 

🍦 A Sweet Surprise 2026!

What a wonderful surprise! 🚚🍦 Our students were delighted to enjoy a special visit from the ice cream truck today. There were plenty of smiles as everyone chose their favourite ice cream and enjoyed a sweet treat together. 😋☀️ It was a lovely way to brighten the day and create even more happy memories at school. 💙😊

 

Junior School Tour  Let's Go Mallow 2026🎉 Our Junior End of School students recently enjoyed an amazing school tour to Let's Go in Mallow! 🚌They had a fantastic day filled with fun, laughter and exciting activities 🤸‍♀️🎯.Well done to all our fantastic students! 

 

🎉 Senior School Tour to MTU Cork 2026 🎉

Our senior pupils enjoyed an action-packed school tour to MTU Cork, where they took part in the exciting Just 4 Fun programme. The day was filled with a wide variety of fun and challenging activities that encouraged teamwork, cooperation and plenty of laughter.

A fantastic day was had by all, and the smiles on everyone's faces said it all! 😊 We would like to thank the staff at MTU Cork for providing such an enjoyable and memorable experience.

 

🚒 Fire Safety Visit from Kanturk Fire Station 2026

🏫🚒 Our pupils recently enjoyed a visit from firefighters from Kanturk Fire Station. Through an informative and interactive presentation, the children learned important fire safety skills, including how to prevent fires 🔥, respond in an emergency 🚨, and recognise potential hazards ⚠️. We are very grateful for this educational and engaging visit 👨‍🚒👏. Thank you for helping our pupils stay safe and informed! 😊🚒🔥

 

Students Take Part in Community Litter Pick - 2026

Our students recently took part in a community litter-picking initiative, helping to keep our local area clean, tidy and welcoming for everyone.

Equipped with litter pickers, gloves and bags, the students worked enthusiastically to collect litter from around the community. The activity provided an excellent opportunity to put into practice the values promoted through our Green Schools programme while highlighting the importance of caring for our environment.

A sincere thank you to all who participated and helped make the litter pick such a success. Together, we can all play our part in creating a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future. 🌿♻️🗑️👏

 

Green Schools Energy Flag Presentation at Fota Wildlife Park - 2026

Our Green Schools Committee recently travelled to Fota Wildlife Park to attend the official presentation of our Green Schools Energy Flag.

This award recognises the hard work, commitment and dedication of our students and staff in promoting energy awareness and encouraging sustainable practices throughout our school. Achieving the Energy Flag is a significant milestone and reflects the efforts made by our entire school community to reduce energy consumption and become more environmentally conscious.

Following the presentation ceremony, students had the opportunity to explore Fota Wildlife Park and enjoy a walk around the park's many exhibits. 

The day was a fitting celebration of all the work that has gone into earning this important award. We are incredibly proud of our Green Schools Committee and all those who contributed towards this achievement.

Wishing Our Cyclists the Very Best of Luck!

We would like to extend our very best wishes to a dedicated local group of cyclists of Kiskeam as they embark on an incredible challenge over the next four days, cycling the full length of Ireland from Malin Head to Mizen Head.

This inspiring journey is being undertaken to raise funds for two very worthy causes: Children's Health Ireland and Marymount University Hospital & Hospice. Their commitment, determination and community spirit are a wonderful example of helping others through personal effort and perseverance.

We were delighted to welcome members of the group to our school recently, where they shared details of their planned route and the preparation involved in taking on such a demanding challenge. They also spoke to our students about the importance of road safety, particularly for cyclists, highlighting the need for awareness, visibility and respect among all road users.

The visit was both informative and inspiring, giving students an insight into the dedication required to complete such an ambitious undertaking while supporting important charitable causes.

As part of our support for the cyclists and the charities they are fundraising for, our school recently held a No Uniform Day. Students and staff generously contributed to the fundraising effort, and we are delighted to play a small part in supporting these wonderful causes. We would like to thank everyone in our school community for their kindness and generosity.

On behalf of our entire school community, we wish the cyclists a safe journey, favourable weather and every success as they make their way from the northernmost point of Ireland to its southern tip. We look forward to following their progress and celebrating their achievement on their return.

Visit from Lord Mayor & Cllr. Bernard Moynihan 2026 

We were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor and Councillor Bernard Moynihan to our school recently. It was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to meet with them, ask questions, and learn more about their important roles within the community.

During the visit, we were also proud to celebrate the raising of our Green Flag for Energy 🌍💚 This achievement reflects the fantastic effort and commitment shown by our pupils and staff in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability throughout the school.

A sincere thank you to our special guests for taking the time to visit and share in this important occasion with us.

 

Parents Association fundraiser 2026

💙 A heartfelt thank you to the Kiskeam Parents Association for organising the recent Monster Bingo fundraiser in support of our school 🎉👏

It was a fantastic community event, filled with great fun and wonderful support. We are extremely grateful for the time, effort and dedication that went into making the event such a success. 🏉 Our 5th and 6th Class pupils enjoyed a fantastic day at the Tag Rugby blitz in Kanturk today. The children displayed wonderful teamwork, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship throughout the event, representing the school with great pride 👏💪

Sciath na Scol Football Finals 2026 

A huge congratulations to both our boys’ and girls’ football teams on reaching their finals today⚽👏. While the results may not have gone our way, both teams gave everything on the pitch and represented the school with incredible pride, passion and determination. Farewell to Our Wonderful Postman Martin

After an incredible 47 years of service, we bid a fond farewell to our wonderful postman, Martin, as he begins his well-earned retirement📮✨. Martin has been a familiar and much-loved face at our school, calling in every morning with the post and always bringing a warm smile 😊. Over the years, he became a special part of our daily routine and the children always looked forward to seeing him. Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome Martin to our assembly, where we gave him a heartfelt send-off 🎉👏. It was a lovely opportunity to thank him for his kindness, dedication and the many years he has been part of our school community. We wish you all the very best in your retirement, Martin. You will be greatly missed! 💙📬

🌟 Inspiring Young Entrepreneurs with Matthew Collins 2026

⭐️ As part of our Junior Entrepreneur Programme, we were delighted to welcome local entrepreneur Matthew Collins from The Sibly Company to speak with our 4th, 5th, and 6th class pupils on Friday. Matthew shared his journey of setting up his own business, explaining how he developed his idea and grew it over the past few years. He gave great insight into the different roles within his company and highlighted how teamwork is essential for success. 📈 The children gained valuable advice on collaboration, advertising, marketing strategies and using online platforms to promote products. Matthew also emphasised the importance of taking things step by step when building a business. 🍪 To top it all off, he kindly brought along some delicious samples for everyone to enjoy! We are very grateful to Matthew for taking the time to visit and inspire our students 🤗

 

Bring in Your Used Batteries 2026 ♻️🔋

Our school is currently running a battery collection as part of our Green Schools Energy Flag initiative. We are encouraging everyone to get involved by bringing in any used batteries they may have at home so they can be safely recycled. This simple action helps reduce waste and supports our commitment to caring for the environment and conserving energy. It’s great to see the whole school community playing its part in making a positive difference. If you have any used batteries, please bring them in and help us continue our journey towards a greener school! 🔋🌿

 

Brightening Up the School for Spring 2026🌞🌿

Our school has been making the most of the brighter days with a spring clean taking place outdoors around the school grounds. Pupils and staff worked together to tidy up outdoor areas, sweep paths, clear up spaces, and freshen up the environment, helping to create a clean, safe, and welcoming space for everyone. It was wonderful to see such teamwork and pride in caring for our surroundings. Easter 2026

Happy Easter from everyone in the school! 🐣🌷We enjoyed a truly special Easter celebration, with great excitement and joy throughout the day, especially during our much-anticipated Easter egg hunt. The children had a wonderful time taking part and sharing in the fun together. A heartfelt word of thanks to Connie, our dedicated caretaker, for creating a beautiful Easter grotto. It was thoughtfully prepared and added a lovely sense of reflection and reverence to our Easter celebrations, helping to remind us of the deeper meaning of this holy season.It was a fitting and joyful way to end the term as a school community.Wishing all our pupils, families, and staff a peaceful, blessed, and very happy Easter break. 🐰✨

 

Confirmation 2026

Congratulations to our 5th and 6th Class pupils who received the Sacrament of Confirmation yesterday. A truly special and memorable occasion for all involved. Sincere thanks to Bishop Ray Browne, Fr. Broderick and all the priests who helped lead such a beautiful and meaningful ceremony. We are also deeply grateful to all the teachers and SNAs for their care, guidance and dedication in preparing the children so well for this important milestone. A wonderful day of faith, celebration and pride for our whole school community. ✨

We are absolutely delighted to unveil our new school astro-turf, a fantastic addition to our school grounds. ⚽️🌟This wonderful new facility will provide our pupils with a safe, high-quality space to play, practise sport and take part in a wide range of outdoor activities throughout the year. It will be a place where skills are developed, friendships are strengthened and many happy school memories are made. A massive well done to everyone who took part in Scór na bPáistí. Ye were absolutely fantastic and represented the school so well. 👏 Well done to our wonderful music group, our energetic set dancers, and to Tommy, who had the audience in stitches with his brilliant and confident recitation. 🌟 Congratulations also to Alice, who placed 2nd in the recitation, and to our quiz teams, who did us proud by placing 1st and 3rd. 🏆A special well done to our 1st place quiz team – Nina, Clodagh, Harrison and Cian, who will now go on to represent the school in the county semi-final. Christmas 2025

This week, our Junior and Senior Infants gathered at the crib to learn about the birth of Jesus through a beautiful and engaging lesson led by their wonderful teacher, Mrs Herlihy. Her kindness, care and dedication made the experience truly special, helping the children understand the Christmas story in a warm and memorable way.⛪ ❤️ We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to our caretaker, Connie, whose hard work, creativity and attention to detail have transformed the school with stunning Christmas decorations. Connie’s efforts help create a joyful, festive atmosphere for our pupils, staff, and visitors, and we are incredibly grateful for all that he does.🎄 🎅 🤶 ⭐

Junior Entrepreneur Programme 

The senior roomhave started the Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP)!

💡 The Junior Entrepreneur Programme is a school-based initiative that teaches students how to create and run their own businesses. It helps them develop a wide range of skills, including creativity, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, leadership, financial literacy, decision-making, confidence, and practical business skills—all in a fun and educational way. 💡

Science Week 2025 ✨🔬
Science Week 2025 was filled with curiosity, creativity, and hands-on discovery! Throughout the week, students took part in a range of fun experiments and activities that brought scientific ideas to life.🧪 From exploring chemical reactions and the wonders of nature, our classrooms were buzzing with excitement.⚗️💥

Re-turn Bottle Recycling Bin

The Parents’ Association has kindly organised a Re-turn bottle recycling bin for bottles and cans. This bright orange bin will be located just inside the school gate.

The Re-turn bin is part of a national scheme that allows people to recycle plastic bottles and aluminium cans with the Re-turn logo and earn a refund for each item. All funds raised from your recycling returns will go towards supporting our school.

This initiative also ties in perfectly with our Green Schools program, helping us reduce waste and promote sustainability within our school community.

A big thank you to our Parents’ Association for organising this great initiative!

Halloween 2025🎃

There were ghouls, ghosts and giggles galore this week as we celebrated Halloween in style! 🕷️ Children and staff arrived in their most fang-tastic costumes, from witches and wizards to superheroes and skeletons. The classrooms were filled with pumpkins, spooky crafts and plenty of fun. 🍬We wish all our pupils and families a safe, fun and frightfully good midterm break! 👻💫

Boys Grading Blitz 2025

A huge well done to our Boys Football Team who took part in the Sciath na Scol blitz in Banteer. The boys played fantastic football and represented our school with great skill and sportsmanship.🏃‍♂️⚽

🌟 New Classroom Opening at Scoil Mhuire, Kiskeam

Today we were proud to open a new classroom at Scoil Mhuire, Kiskeam, dedicated to our late principal, Agnes Cronin.

We would like to thank everyone involved in this project Michael Moynihan, Minister of State at the Department of Education and Youth with special responsibility for Special Education and Inclusion, Parkway Construction, Pat Murphy, and Denis Quinn - for their invaluable support and contribution.

This special dedication is a fitting tribute to Ms. Cronin’s lasting legacy of care, leadership, and commitment to the children and community of Scoil Mhuire, Kiskeam.

Girls Grading Blitz 2025

Our girls had a wonderful day at the school football blitz in Banteer, showcasing great teamwork, sportsmanship and plenty of smiles throughout the day. ⚽️☺️
