Our senior pupils enjoyed an action-packed school tour to MTU Cork, where they took part in the exciting Just 4 Fun programme. The day was filled with a wide variety of fun and challenging activities that encouraged teamwork, cooperation and plenty of laughter.
A fantastic day was had by all, and the smiles on everyone's faces said it all! ๐ We would like to thank the staff at MTU Cork for providing such an enjoyable and memorable experience.
๐ Fire Safety Visit from Kanturk Fire Station 2026
๐ซ๐ Our pupils recently enjoyed a visit from firefighters from Kanturk Fire Station. Through an informative and interactive presentation, the children learned important fire safety skills, including how to prevent fires ๐ฅ, respond in an emergency ๐จ, and recognise potential hazards โ ๏ธ. Students Take Part in Community Litter Pick - 2026
Our students recently took part in a community litter-picking initiative, helping to keep our local area clean, tidy and welcoming for everyone.
Equipped with litter pickers, gloves and bags, the students worked enthusiastically to collect litter from around the community. The activity provided an excellent opportunity to put into practice the values promoted through our Green Schools programme while highlighting the importance of caring for our environment.
A sincere thank you to all who participated and helped make the litter pick such a success. Together, we can all play our part in creating a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future. ๐ฟโป๏ธ๐๏ธ๐
Green Schools Energy Flag Presentation at Fota Wildlife Park - 2026
Our Green Schools Committee recently travelled to Fota Wildlife Park to attend the official presentation of our Green Schools Energy Flag.
This award recognises the hard work, commitment and dedication of our students and staff in promoting energy awareness and encouraging sustainable practices throughout our school. Achieving the Energy Flag is a significant milestone and reflects the efforts made by our entire school community to reduce energy consumption and become more environmentally conscious.
Following the presentation ceremony, students had the opportunity to explore Fota Wildlife Park and enjoy a walk around the park's many exhibits.
The day was a fitting celebration of all the work that has gone into earning this important award. We are incredibly proud of our Green Schools Committee and all those who contributed towards this achievement.

Wishing Our Cyclists the Very Best of Luck!
We would like to extend our very best wishes to a dedicated local group of cyclists of Kiskeam as they embark on an incredible challenge over the next four days, cycling the full length of Ireland from Malin Head to Mizen Head.
This inspiring journey is being undertaken to raise funds for two very worthy causes: Children's Health Ireland and Marymount University Hospital & Hospice. Their commitment, determination and community spirit are a wonderful example of helping others through personal effort and perseverance.
We were delighted to welcome members of the group to our school recently, where they shared details of their planned route and the preparation involved in taking on such a demanding challenge. They also spoke to our students about the importance of road safety, particularly for cyclists, highlighting the need for awareness, visibility and respect among all road users.
The visit was both informative and inspiring, giving students an insight into the dedication required to complete such an ambitious undertaking while supporting important charitable causes.
As part of our support for the cyclists and the charities they are fundraising for, our school recently held a No Uniform Day. Students and staff generously contributed to the fundraising effort, and we are delighted to play a small part in supporting these wonderful causes. We would like to thank everyone in our school community for their kindness and generosity.
On behalf of our entire school community, we wish the cyclists a safe journey, favourable weather and every success as they make their way from the northernmost point of Ireland to its southern tip. We look forward to following their progress and celebrating their achievement on their return.

Visit from Lord Mayor & Cllr. Bernard Moynihan 2026
We were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor and Councillor Bernard Moynihan to our school recently. It was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to meet with them, ask questions, and learn more about their important roles within the community.
During the visit, we were also proud to celebrate the raising of our Green Flag for Energy ๐๐ This achievement reflects the fantastic effort and commitment shown by our pupils and staff in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability throughout the school.

Farewell to Our Wonderful Postman Martin
After an incredible 47 years of service, we bid a fond farewell to our wonderful postman, Martin, as he begins his well-earned retirement๐ฎโจ. Martin has been a familiar and much-loved face at our school, calling in every morning with the post and always bringing a warm smile ๐. Over the years, he became a special part of our daily routine and the children always looked forward to seeing him. Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome Martin to our assembly, where we gave him a heartfelt send-off ๐๐. It was a lovely opportunity to thank him for his kindness, dedication and the many years he has been part of our school community. We wish you all the very best in your retirement, Martin. ๐ Inspiring Young Entrepreneurs with Matthew Collins 2026
โญ๏ธ As part of our Junior Entrepreneur Programme, we were delighted to welcome local entrepreneur Matthew Collins from The Sibly Company to speak with our 4th, 5th, and 6th class pupils on Friday. Matthew shared his journey of setting up his own business, explaining how he developed his idea and grew it over the past few years. He gave great insight into the different roles within his company and highlighted how teamwork is essential for success. ๐ The children gained valuable advice on collaboration, advertising, marketing strategies and using online platforms to promote products. Matthew also emphasised the importance of taking things step by step when building a business. ๐ช To top it all off, he kindly brought along some delicious samples for everyone to enjoy! We are very grateful to Matthew for taking the time to visit and inspire our students ๐ค
Bring in Your Used Batteries 2026 โป๏ธ๐
Our school is currently running a battery collection as part of our Green Schools Energy Flag initiative. We are encouraging everyone to get involved by bringing in any used batteries they may have at home so they can be safely recycled. This simple action helps reduce waste and supports our commitment to caring for the environment and conserving energy. Our school has been making the most of the brighter days with a spring clean taking place outdoors around the school grounds. This week, our Junior and Senior Infants gathered at the crib to learn about the birth of Jesus through a beautiful and engaging lesson led by their wonderful teacher, Mrs Herlihy. Her kindness, care and dedication made the experience truly special, helping the children understand the Christmas story in a warm and memorable way.โช โค๏ธ We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to our caretaker, Connie, whose hard work, creativity and attention to detail have transformed the school with stunning Christmas decorations. Junior Entrepreneur Programme

Re-turn Bottle Recycling Bin
The Parentsโ Association has kindly organised a Re-turn bottle recycling bin for bottles and cans. This bright orange bin will be located just inside the school gate.
The Re-turn bin is part of a national scheme that allows people to recycle plastic bottles and aluminium cans with the Re-turn logo and earn a refund for each item. All funds raised from your recycling returns will go towards supporting our school.
This initiative also ties in perfectly with our Green Schools program, helping us reduce waste and promote sustainability within our school community.

There were ghouls, ghosts and giggles galore this week as we celebrated Halloween in style! ๐ท๏ธ Children and staff arrived in their most fang-tastic costumes, from witches and wizards to superheroes and skeletons. Boys Grading Blitz 2025
A huge well done to our Boys Football Team who took part in the Sciath na Scol blitz in Banteer. The boys played fantastic football and represented our school with great skill and sportsmanship.๐โโ๏ธโฝ

๐ New Classroom Opening at Scoil Mhuire, Kiskeam
Today we were proud to open a new classroom at Scoil Mhuire, Kiskeam, dedicated to our late principal, Agnes Cronin.
We would like to thank everyone involved in this project Michael Moynihan, Minister of State at the Department of Education and Youth with special responsibility for Special Education and Inclusion, Parkway Construction, Pat Murphy, and Denis Quinn - for their invaluable support and contribution.
This special dedication is a fitting tribute to Ms. Croninโs lasting legacy of care, leadership, and commitment to the children and community of Scoil Mhuire, Kiskeam.
