About Our School
Our Mission Statement
Our school exists to promote the balanced growth and development of each child. Therefore, we endeavour to cater for the full and harmonious development of each child, by providing a broad and flexible curriculum meeting the needs of the highly intelligent as well as the needs of the slow learner. Drama, Music, Dance, Art, Physical Education and Games, are regarded as important to allow children some opportunity to express their individuality and to experience success and satisfaction in what they do at school. We support the philosophy of education basic to the three main aims of primary education as stated in the Primary School Curriculum Its overall vision is to enable children to meet, with self-confidence and assurance, the demands of life, both now and in the future and can be expressed as follows : To enable the child to live a full life as a child and to realise his or her potential as a unique individual To enable the child to develop as a social being through living and co-operating with others and so contribute to the good of society To prepare the child for further education and lifelong learning A code of discipline will be maintained in the school so that children will grow in self discipline and so therefore grow in respect for themselves, their teachers and fellow pupils. Children are expected to behave with courtesy at all times. Vulgar, offensive, sectarian or other aggressive behaviour is disapproved of. We recognise that individual growth best takes place in an atmosphere of openness and friendliness. Accordingly we strive in each class and throughout the school to create a strong sense of community enlivened by a practical expression of Gospel values of hope, justice, mercy, compassion and reconciliation. We share in the responsibility of transmitting knowledge and attitudes which will enable the children to grow in their religious faith, the image of God as a loving Father is promoted, and a personal relationship with Christ is nurtured through meaningful Liturgies and a spirit of prayerfulness through the school. In this context we value highly the sacramental preparation programmes for First Holy Communion and for Confirmation which have so much potential for joining together in faith by priests, parents, children, and teachers. The school seeks to work in harmony with the many groups in the wider community so that local initiatives are supported and so that the social conscience of the pupil is developed. The parents are the primary educators of their children and the school is where the professional educators complement the work of the home. In recognition of this fact, the school seeks to maintain a friendly collaboration and a good working rapport with all parents. The school takes initiatives to strengthen the bonds of partnerships with parents striving to promote the balanced development of each child. The spiritual and pastoral ministry of the priests of the parish can be an enriching influence in the school and so the school seeks to work in close partnership with the local clergy. It is our wish that the pupils leave our school with an openness to continuing personal growth and with skills in creativity and flexibility which will enable them to cope with a changing society.
Déanfaimid iarracht Gaeilge a labhairt. The school motto is: There is no strength without unity Ní neart go cur le chéile.
